After years of controversy over the evacuation of a village in the Irish Traveller caravans in the UK in the last minute, the inhabitants have achieved a partial success. The High Court in London ruled that remain members of the traveling people, at least until Friday on the grounds in Baslidon near the capital and their caravans and cars should not be removed by the authorities.
Although recognized by the Supreme Court decision on the eviction to be legal, but decided that it would be in nobody's interest if riots break out between protesters and the authorities. On the site is still thriving some 200 Travellers and supporters. They had announced their intention to deviate in any way. It is unclear whether being cleared on Friday for good. An extension of the injunction would be examined, it said. The chief authorities of Basildon, Tony Ball, had promised an orderly evacuation of the area.

The nation's largest settlement of the Traveller should be resolved initially today after ten years of litigation. The police had surrounded the area, some 20 law enforcement officers forced their way in front of the camp. But be drawn back again after a short discussion, it said.
"They are destroying the lives of children and the elderly"

The residents want to stay, mainly because they do not know where they are after an evacuation. A spokeswoman said the traveler, going to evacuate "the lives of young children and very sick old man and destroyed." The head of city administration, however, defended the authorities decision. The city council of Basildon accuses the traveling people, to have cultivated the land without permission and in violation of the law. The Travellers had bought the land a decade ago. They ultimately resulted in lawsuits for violations of the building and planning law. Today the deadline expired to leave the premises voluntarily.

The Irish Travellers are a nomadic people with roots in Ireland. Their number is estimated at about 50,000. Most of the predominantly Catholic strictly Travellers live in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain, and around 10,000 in the U.S..
